OCTUVRE HAS THREE NEW ‘FOLLOWERS’: a prosecutor, a judge, and a commander of the Civil Guard.

Clearly the Spanish State is going to great lenghts to know what those who make OCTUVRE do and say. So we have decided to do three things:

Firstly, we will bury them with lawsuits. We will legally prosecute them as far as necessary and they will pay for what they have done. To do this, we will count on the help of a lawyer who has already faced them on several occasions: Josep Costa (1).

Secondly, we will work even harder so that all Catalans know in detail each and every one of the turpitudes of the Spanish State. If they are concerned about OCTUVRE videos, that’s what they will get —in spades.

And finally, we grant the title of ‘premium subscribers’ to the prosecutor José María Carballo, the judge Alejandro Abascal Junquera, and the commander of the Civil Guard number L-04282. All three have spent a huge amount of money to be able to listen to everything we say in OCTUVRE. In gratitude, we will work to make all of Catalonia know them and their modus operandi.

On April 18, 2022, The New Yorker magazine published a report titled ‘How Democracies Spy on Their Citizens’ (3) explaining how 65 people from the Catalan independence movement had been spied on with Pegasus. The case became known as Catalangate, and one of the people spied on was Albano Dante Fachin, one of the founders of OCTUVRE. At that time, we decided not to take legal action but simply explain the case to our readers. We thought we had to focus all our efforts on continuing to do what we know best: shedding light on the excesses of the supremacist regime of the Spanish Bourbons.

But in early December 2023, once again, we received news that we had been spied on. This time the tapped phones were those of Albano Dante Fachin, Marta Sibina Camps (the other founder of OCTUVRE) and two more family members.

This second interception of our communications was requested by the commander of the Civil Guard number L-04282 for considering that the members of OCTUVRE were organizers of the Tsunami Democràtic (4) platform, considered by the Spanish State as a ‘terrorist organization’, which, by the way, has already provoked the laughter of the judicial systems of the USA and Switzerland.

We must confess that at OCTUVRE we love Tsunami Democràtic.

çWe loved it when they paralyzed the Barcelona airport and we loved it when they blocked the highway that crosses the border of La Jonquera. We must also confess that each and every one of the OCTUVRE videos has as one of its objectives to spur the people of Catalonia to repeat all the demonstrations necessary until the Bourbons and all the machinery that accompanies them are expelled from Catalonia.

What we don’t like so much is that the request of the Civil Guard—a police force with obvious shortcomings—was approved by the prosecutor José María Carballo and the judge Alejandro Abascal, who ordered the wiretaps without evidence and without any well-founded suspicion at all. And it’s not us saying it: it’s the fact that after three months of phone tapping, they haven’t been able to find any evidence at all of any punishable action.

Listening to others’ conversations without their permission isn’t cool. But if the police do it, with the authorization of a prosecutor and a judge, and without evidence, then it’s really not cool. That’s why we have decided to take legal action against all those involved in these wiretaps. It may take long but we have decided to prosecute them as far as necessary. We are not in a hurry and we remember.

In the meantime, we will continue doing our job: providing data, information, and arguments with the explicit objective of revolting against the Spanish State and its impositions with more and more conviction and grassroots drive. We will do everything in our power to make their fears come true. And we will do it with the help of the thousands of people who trust our project and allow us to work without depending on grants or advertising (5).

They’d better get ready, because being the victims of their methods has not scared us. On the contrary: they have given us another reason to fight them with all our might.
